The Howells didn't know something was wrong until Christmas of that year when the youngest son didn't show up for Christmas dinner. His horses were sold to a ranch that teaches handicapped children to ride. They have the goat from Africa too. No one wanted the car however, as it was missing three doors and had more sand in the engine than engine. The apothecary was absorbed into a larger chain. The money made was put towards a search effort, but nothing ever came of it. Est is missing, presumed dead. His family assumes he got himself killed trying to be a hero. It was a common cause of death in those days.

Est, for his part, spent time as a stray dog, a tree in South Africa that was cleared for farm land, and a small moon before earning the right to be reborn as a human again.

Grinning with unrestrained glee as his entire life seems to have been carefully constructed to reach this precise moment, James Est Howell, III, in what may be his greatest and final moment, levels his wand at Adelaide and shouts, "AVIS!"

Lost again. I need to start turning a profit on these horses, or I'm going to get investors breathing down my neck. It's a much dirtier world than I was picturing. I might have to come up with something, retaliatory at the very least. I can hardly aim a spell under the best conditions, I can't imagine how many spectators I'd take out while trying to dodge freaking lightning at the same time.

At least I can raid the shop for some good materials and wright it off as 'researching alternative branches of revenue"
